Area Information
Couminole Cottage, constructed before the Great Famine, is
a beautifully restored traditional Irish cottage. Located on
Slea Head Drive, it overlooks Dingle Bay and The Blasket Islands.
The cottage is one of the most photographed and painted houses
in Ireland and has been featured on postcards, calendars, magazines,
and books since 1929.
Walk to the beach you've dreamed about
where Ryan's Daughter and Far & Away were
filmed; the beautiful Couminole Strand. It's a small beach
sheltered from the winds by spectacular 100 foot high cliffs.
Many say the Dingle Peninsula is one of the most beautiful
parts of Ireland.
Lots to do nearby:
Golf, boat trips, swim with Fungie the dolphin, fishing, sight
seeing, exceptional crafters, art galleries, and shopping in
the area.
There are many cozy pubs, traditional music,
and world-famous restaurants in the area.
Excellent cafe for coffee and lunch right in Couminole: Tig
Slea Head. Enjoy their marvelous, slightly different view.
We're only 2 1/2 miles to the Blasket Interpretative
Center and the ferry to the Blasket Islands. The Dingle Peninsula
(and particularly out west as they refer to our location) has
many famous historic, pre-historic architectural sites, castles,
beehive huts, and the Gallarus Oratory. There are several museums
of natural & local history within a couple of miles.
There are easily enough activities to fill several weeks.
We still haven't seen, done them all. Do as little or as much
as you want.
